Deputy Sheriff Terrian Bailey was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance call near a local convenience store off Highway 18, near Hermanville, shortly after midnight. Deputy Bailey was working to disperse a crowd that had gathered after a festival when shots were fired. He and a civilian bystander were struck. Both Deputy Bailey and the civilian were taken to a nearby hospital. Deputy Bailey succumbed to his wounds later that morning. The shooting is still under investigation, and the suspect is still at large. Deputy Bailey had served with the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department for six years. Survivors include his wife and four children.
Deputy Sheriff Michael Hendricks was killed in a crash on Ladson Road between Highway 78 and Lincolnville Road around 11:25 a.m. Deputy Hendricks was traveling west and collided with a tractor-trailer heading east. His patrol truck burst into flames. Deputy Hendricks had served with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office for over three years. Survivors include his wife, three sons, two stepchildren, mother, father, brother, and grandmother.
