Wildlife Officer David Taylor

Wildlife Officer David Taylor was killed while trying to evacuate residents during the Railroad South Fire in Comanche County, Oklahoma. Officer Taylor was going door to door to notify citizens to leave the area due to the fast-moving fire. His last contact was while he was assisting a family as they evacuated their home. His body was recovered from a structure days later. Officer Taylor was a United States Navy veteran and had served with the United States Department of the Interior - Fish and Wildlife Service - Division of Refuge Law Enforcement at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. He was previously assigned to the Rio Mora National Wildlife Refuge and Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. Survivors include his wife, son, and parents.

Sergeant Chris Fisher

Warm Springs Police Department, GA

Sergeant Chris Fisher was shot and killed outside the Meriwether County Inn at 5675 Spring Street in Warm Springs around 11:57 p.m. Sergeant Fisher was sitting in his patrol vehicle after completing a traffic stop when a man pulled up next to him and fired into the patrol vehicle, killing Sergeant Fisher at the scene. The man drove away, and a Blue Alert was issued. The suspect was transported to a South Carolina hospital, where he passed away after he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a traffic stop. The suspect is believed to be a man whom Sergeant Fisher arrested the week prior. Sergeant Fisher had served with the Warm Springs Police Department for three months and previously served with the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and Heard County Sheriff’s Office. Survivors include his wife and two children. His father also served in law enforcement.

*The $5,000 survivor benefit is paid when a line of duty death occurs. Line of duty is defined as AFBA members who are Emergency Service Providers to include law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical services providers who are killed while involved in operations at or responding to/from the scene of an incident. If death occurs otherwise, outside of a suicide, the beneficiary will receive a $2000 benefit.
