Detective Sergeant Derek Sidwell died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Sergeant Sidwell served with the Overton County Sheriff's Office for 14 years. He is survived by his wife and two children. Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

Collierville Police Department, Tennessee

Police Officer Edgar Morris died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Officer Morris served with the Collierville Police Department for 16 years. He is survived by his wife and two children. Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

Deputy Sheriff Michael Neau died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Deputy Neau had served with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office for 10 years. He is survived by his wife and six children. Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

Special Agent Dustin Slovacek died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 while deployed to the United States-Mexico border in support of Operation Lone Star. Agent Slovacek was a United States Marine Corps veteran. He served with the Texas Department of Public Safety- Criminal Investigations Division for 14 years. He is survived by his daughter, parents, and brother who is also a Special Agent. Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

Lieutenant James Guynes died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Lieutenant Guynes had served with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department for 26 years. He is survived by his wife, daughter, grandchild, three brothers and one sister. Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.

Officer Blaize Madrid-Evans

Independence Police Department, Missouri

EOW: Sept. 15, 2021 | Age: 22 | Tour: None

Officer Blaize Madrid-Evans was shot and killed when he responded to the 2300 block of Northern Boulevard after dispatchers received a tip stating a wanted subject was at a residence. As officers arrived at the scene at about 11:30 am, they were ambushed by a subject who opened fire on them, striking Officer Madrid-Evans in the neck. Officer Madrid-Evans' field training instructor returned fire and killed the subject. Officer Madrid-Evans was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds later that evening. Officer Madrid-Evans had graduated from the academy only two months earlier and was still in field training. He is survived by his parents and fiancée.

Chief Jon Delvalle

Garden Valley Fire Protection District, Idaho

On Aug. 15, 2021, while on duty, Chief Jon Delvalle was exposed to a patient who was COVID-19 positive. He subsequently contracted the virus and passed away on Sept. 14, 2021.

Firefighter/Paramedic Miguel Angulo

Phoenix Fire Department, Arizona

On July 22, 2021, Firefighter/Paramedic Miguel Angulo responded to an EMS call with a patient with a known case of COVID-19. He subsequently contracted the virus and passed away on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021.

Firefighter Paramedic Anthony Palato

Centennial, Colorado

EOW: Sept. 15, 2021 | Age: None | Tour: None

Anthony Palato was diagnosed with an occupational cancerous tumor in 2017, 9 News reported. He went into remission a few years ago, but the cancer returned. Palato died early Wednesday morning. “As a paramedic for 21 years, there is no doubt that Tony touched many lives and will be remembered as a kind, caring and compassionate person with a true servant’s heart, he will be greatly missed,” a statement from SMFR read. In honor of Palato, all SMFR facilities will fly flags at half-staff, and badges will be “shrouded until further notice.” Palato entered the fire service with the City of Sheridan Fire Department, before joining the Cunningham Fire Protection District, which later unified with SMFR in 2018. Palato is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Police Officer Noah LeBlanc died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Officer LeBlanc had served with the Laguna Vista Police Department for three years. He is survived by his two children and his parents. Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.
